GEM Particles
The particles (dubbed Gram-positive Enhancer Matrix or GEM particles) are particles derived from inactivated Lactococcus lactis bacteria. L. lactis is a safe bacterium that traditionally is used in the food industry, such as for the production of cheese. GEM particles are obtained by a simple treatment resulting in non-living spherical particles that predominantly consist of a peptidoglycan surface. This surface is the component that induces the long-lasting immunity needed for protection against disease causing pathogens.
